I’m so excited to be able to share with you again this semester the amazing gift Franciscan University is to me. My name is Chris Pagano, and I am a Business Finance major with a minor in Theology. I can not believe it, but now I am a Junior. Time feels like it has gone by so fast. I just got back from a beautiful semester in Gaming, Austria, studying with Franciscan University’s study abroad program. It was an unbelievable semester with so many memorable experiences that will stay with me forever. Now it is good to be back on campus. It’s nice to be with all my friends who weren’t in Austria and those who were. Campus life also has so much to offer and I am anxious to get involved.
I had to come in a day earlier than expected because the East Coast was getting hit with a hurricane, and I didn’t want to get stuck at home. After two days of getting settled in, classes started. This year I will be taking three business courses: Intermediate Accounting, Corporate Finance, and Organization and Management. In addition to those, I will be taking a theology course, Principles of Biblical Studies, and a history class, Western Civilization. After completing my first full week of classes, I am excited with the ones I have. I am really starting to dive into my business major, which is very exciting because it is giving me more of a direction with what I want to do after graduation. I always like to have a theology class in my schedule because they are so awesome here. My history class took me by surprise as I am not much of a history guy, but it is really interesting and I am enjoying it.
We have an “Opening Weekend” at the beginning of the semester to start the year off. One of the events was Household Olympics. Households provide great opportunities for faith formation on campus. They are groups of men and women who strive together for holiness. Each household has its own covenant, pillars, and patrons that aid us through our vocation here at the University and through life. I am in the household Disciples of the Word. We participated in the Household Olympics and had a blast. We competed in multiple events against other households and ended up in first place! In addition to the Olympics, we had an opening Mass and Festival of Praise. All the events that took place that weekend really helped open the school year in a fun and prayerful way. Not only was that weekend fun but the next one as well. Intramurals sponsored a sand volleyball tournament. It was a 3 on 3 co-ed tournament and I entered with two friends. After battling through some inclement weather, we won! It was a very fun and exciting day to come together and get to know other students through athletic activities.
The semester is off to a good start. I have been keeping busy with various activities on campus: household, swing dancing, my studies, and much more. I have already had a quiz and the homework assignments are starting to come. Each semester helps me to learn and grow in my life in many different ways and I am looking forward to seeing what this one holds.
I will be talking to you soon.
