Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I hope you all had a great time with your families and friends over the holidays. I was able to go home to Nashville to be with family, and then to my grandparents’ house in Iowa for a big family Christmas party. It was so great to be able to visit with my cousins, aunts, and uncles from around the country! We sang carols, opened presents, and ate some delicious home cooking. My family went to the vigil mass at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in downtown Nashville. It was beautiful.
Well now I am back at Franciscan for my FINAL semester! It’s hard to believe that time has gone this fast. My classes this semester are: Leadership and Management in Nursing, Nursing Research, Sexual/Medical Morality, and Theology of Christ. For my clinical, I was placed at Acuity Specialty Hospital on a Long Term Acute Care Unit. This is basically a step down unit from the ICU, so most of the patients still have some sort of ventilator, nasogastric tube, colostomy, or other complication that prevents them from going to a regular unit or to outpatient care. Instead of being in a clinical group, I follow a preceptor and learn from him individually. This is really great because I get a lot more experience with medications and different procedures. I am excited to learn and grow in my last semester of nursing through this preceptorship. In my research class, we divide into groups and pick a research topic to conduct a study around throughout the semester. In May, we will present our research process and results to the class and faculty.
The weekend after we returned to school, I went to see the play Les Miserables in Pittsburgh with my sister, Rachel. I was able to get tickets for a discounted price through the school for the incredible production! We had great seats, had fun dressing up and going out to dinner beforehand, and ended up seeing a lot of other Franciscan students in the audience! The proximity of Franciscan to Pittsburgh is really convenient because there is so much to do and see in Pittsburgh, I definitely want to take advantage of the city’s attractions this last semester.
I hope you are all staying warm, I’ll be sharing again soon!
Welcome to my blog! I’m Leann Roggensack and I’m a nursing major here at Franciscan University. I’m a member of the household Theotokos, play intramural basketball, and took part in SENT Ministries. For those of you who don’t know about it, SENT is an organization on campus that forms teams of students to organize retreats for local high school students. I absolutely loved it.
