Franciscan University is such a special place for so many reasons. And I think I could talk all day about why, but there are a few standout reasons why I think Franciscan is unlike any other university. I was thinking about the chapels we have in each dorm: opportunities to develop closer relationships with Christ. When I was a freshman, I didn’t utilize these opportunities as well as I could have. I was recently talking with my mom about school, and she said something to me that struck me. She said, “The fact that you have a chapel in your dorm is astounding. You will never have that opportunity again unless you enter the convent.” And she is so right! We have this opportunity to have a closeness with Christ in a very unique way. We would be silly to not take advantage of being able to say goodnight to God, even if it’s just for a minute. But if it’s more than a minute, and we develop the habit of going to the chapel every night before bed, or whatever time we can, our relationship with God will grow. My mom also always said that “love” is spelled “t-i-m-e” and to love someone properly, we have to spend time with them. The more time we spend, the closer we will get. This semester, I’m challenging myself to put time into my relationship with Christ. I challenge you to do the same!
Hi! My name is Josefa Gonzalez. I’m a senior here at Franciscan majoring in communication arts and loving every second of it. I’m from northern Virginia (yes, northern must be specified because southern VA is basically another state) but if people ask I usually just say DC. I enjoy a good cup of coffee (French press please) and pretty much everything on the Starbucks menu.
